Mentz, Aug 3. The French took by surprize, the castle of
Lower Ulm, 2 leagues from hence, and the garrison of 200 men
were made prisoners of war. The enemy is entrenching here,
and as 'tis fear'd, they have a design to besiege this city,
all preparations are making for a vigorous defence. 'Tis
assur'd his Electoral Highness has resolv'd to leave this
place to-morrow. A trumpet came hither yesterday from the
Marshal d'Asfeldt, who was immediately conducted to General
Wallis, Governor of this city; but we know not the subject
of this errand.
