Extract of a letter from the headquarters of General Brown
at Guastalla, dated March 30. . .
General Brown, immediately on investing Guastalla, rais'd
some fascine batteries, and was on the point of beginning to
play them, when the commandant, the Marquis George Caraffa,
being inform'd of the body under the Marquis de Castellar
being cut off, and having only in the town three battalions
of foot and one squadron of horse, immediately beat the
Chamade, and surrender'd with his whole garrison, prisoner
of war. . .
