Charles-Town, South-Carolina, June 2.
An Account of what happened at the Congrees, the place
appointed by the Governor for an Interview with the Catawba
Indians. . .
April 28th. A place being erected for the governor to sit
under, and the union flag hoisted, our men were drawn out in
two lines, thro' which the Indians marched, when they were
received with drums beating and colours flying, and saluted
with some small pieces of cannon. . . [3 columns, Indian's
reply to governor:] . . . We desire your excellency will
give us a drum, and likewise a flag, what we may be able to
shew to the Virginians and other white people that come
amongst us, as a token of our friendship to the English. . .

After this the King and Headmen of the Catawba's dined
with his Excellency. After dinner several healths were
drank, and the guns were fired after each health; and
sometime thereafter they entertained his Excellency with a
War Dance. . .
