Extract of a letter from Gosport, Sept. 13. After the
Ambuscade man of war was paid off, the crew, neatly dressed,
with cockades of blue and red ribbons in their hats, and a
band of musick playing before them, marched in procession,
with their captain, lieutenants, boatswain, and other
officers, at their head, round Portsmouth, with the union
flag, and other English colours, and Spanish and French
colours, which they had taken, carried with them. After
they had been round Portsmouth, they came over the water,
and did the same round this town, giving their officers
three chears at every corner of the streets . . .
