Extract of a letter from an English officer in Germany,
dated November 14. . . [report of action of army under Lord
Granby. Troops took] the summit of the Elvast, a mountain
upon the right of the corps, which was of the last
importance. . . At this critical moment Prince Ferdinand
arrived: His Serene Highness expressed the highest
satisfaction with the condition he found matters in, ordered
the Chasseurs to re-occupy their post, whilst the army
marched on to sustain them, beating the Grenadiers March.
The enemy perceiving the good countenance with which the
troops advanced, and the grenadiers gaining on their left
flank, began to retire on every side. . .
