which describe celebration in the colonies after the repeal
of the Stamp Act.]
Wilmington (North Carolina) April 21. . . [3d paragraph]
When the news of the Stamp Act being repealed reached
Masonborough [3 lines] . . . some of the Wilmingtons, who
were occasionally there, shewed the greatest marks of joy
and loyalty on the occasion: It being evening, they
immediately erected three times three bonfires, drank many
loyal patriotic toasts, and closed the day with music,
dancing, and joy.
Falmouth (Casco Bay) May 23.
. . . [8 lines] on which occasion an anthem was sung after
service at the church. The morning following was ushered in
with every demonstration of loyalty and joy that could
possibly be expressed, such as ringing of bells, firing of
cannon at the fort, and on board the shipping in the
harbour, having all their colours displayed, beating of
drums, &c. when many loyal toasts were drank. . . [11 lines]
