The following advertisement is taken from a Charles-Town
paper of July 31, called "The Royal South Carolina Gazette,
" printed by Robertson, Macdonald and Cameron:
"Subscriptions are opened at Mess. Kingsley and Oats's
store, No. 16, Broad-street, Messrs. Robertson, Macdonald
and Cameron's printing-office, Mr. Charles Atkins's house,
No. 6, Legare-street, and at Messrs. Arwin and Rugge's, No.
90, Broad-street; where, it is hoped, the inhabitants of
this place will generously contribute towards the redemption
of the bells, by the custom of war become the property of
the commanding officer of the artillery."
We shall make no other remark on the above advertisement
than to mention, that it is not sects of religion, or party-
names, which have any effect on the enemy: Their object is
property and plunder wherever they can find it, or from
whoever they can take it; and if they would not spare the
bells of the church, of which they stile themselves
defenders, what is there they will not confiscate, could
they have it in their power.
