8 Dec 1764:21 (112)
London . . . Last Sunday the parish clerk of a church south
of London Bridge, having given out a psalm which the
minister did not approve of, was called to from the pulpit
to sing Gloria Patri, which he not instantly complying with,
was pulled out of the desk, by the minister, who kick'd him
very heartily in the sight of the whole congregation, who
were great scandalized, at such an exertion of
ecclesiastical authority.
Early on Tuesday morning last a certain young man (not a
mile from St. Paul's) who was married the preceding day,
took his leave of his wife. The drummers paying the usual
compliments of such occasions a little after, the lady went
to her drawers to take some money in order to make them a
present, when, to her great surprize, she found her new
spouse had walked off with her whole fortune.
