On Wednesday, the 22d of December, they were again on the
water, in a close boat. In the afternoon two gentlemen and
a lady arrived, as visitors, having, as she was told, been
sent for from London. They entertained themselves with what
was called Italian shades; some sheets were sewed together,
and hung up, with candles placed only on one side; the
spectators are on the dark side, and the performers placing
themselves between the sheets, and the candle on the other
side, are perceived by their shadows on the linen. Lord
Baltimore was among the performers, and the lady that came
down from London said, "that is Lord Baltimore who acts the
old man." . . .
