The Duke of Marlborough paid a debt for the city of Oxford, which had lain heavy upon the inhabitants for more than half a century, amounting in the whole to 5983 L. 7s. 2d. On this occasion the bells were set a ringing, and the freemen were entertained, by the liberality of his grace, at more than 50 houses. |
