The Town-Major.
A Farce.
Dramatis Personae.
Major-General Present,* Town-Major of the town of Newport,
in the state of Rhode Island, &c.
Cockade, a subaltern officer.
Onus, a worthy citizen of the town of Newport.
Cuffy, a Negro belonging to Onus.
Scene in Newport, soon after it was invaded and takes
possession of by a body of British and Hessian troops, under
the command of General Clinton.
Act I. Scene I.
A House.
The town-major sitting in the parlour, by the fireside,
leaning on a table, and look surlily across it.
Enter Cockade and Onus.
Cockade. Sir, I have brought the man.
T. Major. What man?
Cockade. The man you ordered me to bring up, sir.
T. Major. Who?--
