Please to present your customers with the two following
songs.--The candid reader will make some allowance for their
being written by foreigners, and at least pay them the
tribute of gratitude for their benevolent intentions.
A SONG, written by a Dutch lady at the Hague, for the
Americans at Amsterdam, July 4, 1779.
1.
God save the thirteen states!
Long rule th' United States!
God save our states!
Make us victorious,
. . . [3 more lines and 9 more verses]
Another written by a Dutch gentleman at Amsterdam, July 4,
1779.
1.
God bless the thirteen states!
And save for e'er our fates
From tyranny!
This is the joyful day.
. . . [2 more lines and 3 more verses]
The foregoing are true copies of two songs, written at the
Hague and Amsterdam; with a most hearty wish, that they may
add fuel to the precious fire which is burning in every true
American heart.
Attest. The steady friends of America at the Hague.
Endure dear brethren, what remains of labour,
To get the port of freedom's heav'nly favour.
