By the Earl of Leicester packet, Capt. Radford, arrived at
New-York, and Capt. Rench, from London, who arrived here
yesterday we have the following advices, viz. . . .
Paris, May 17. We learn from Minorca that Marshal
Richelieu, in order to ease his men, employs the country
people in the works, to whom he gives forty sols per day.
We hear that on the arrival of that general in the island,
the English governor sent a trumpet with a letter to him
demanding the reasons of his hostilities as there was no
declaration of war between the two crowns. . . .
