Since our last arrived here, several vessels from Europe, by
which we have the following advices. . . .
Ratisbon, August 28. The people in general seem opposers of
the revenue farms. The populace at Vienna, who lately
assembled at the tobacco-office, which has been under the
management of Jews, were going to destroy the houses which
the Jews inhabited. To prevent further disturbance, strong
parties from the regiment of Lowenstein dragoons, and that
of Lacy infantry, were ordered to march in the night between
the 17th and 18th; and on the 18th, notice was given by
sound of trumpet, that if any one should offer to insult the
Jews, or endeavour to destroy their habitations, they should
be proceeded against as criminals.
