Liverpool, April 27. Extract of a letter from Denhighshire,
April 21. Thursday last being the day Sir Watkin Williams
Wynn came to age, you may imagine we have not been very
quiet in these parts. . . . The next morning was ushered in
with the usual serenade of drums and trumpets, bells and
cannon, the sound of which seemed to have alarmed all the
neighbouring counties . . . The whole of this picturesque
procession, proceeded by an elegant band of music, afforded
a very novel and pleasing spectacle . . . while the populace
here regaled, the numerous visitants of superior rank were
summoned by sound of trumpet to dinner, where elegance and
plenty seemed in rivalry to form an entertainment worthy the
occasion. You may better conceive than I describe the
festive felicity crowned this joyous meeting; mirth, music,
song and pleasantry seemed to mark that Comus here had fixed
his court. . . .
