Richmond, (Virginia) Feb. 15. Tuesday last being the birth
day of his Excellency General Washington, was observed in
this city, with every public and private demonstration of
joy. . . [3 lines] In the evening there was a numerous and
brilliant assembly of ladies and gentlemen from this city
and the neighbouring country; upwards of one hundred ladies,
and an equal number of gentlemen being present; the
oeconomy, decorum and propriety of which could only be
exceeded but by the festive mirth and social happiness which
appeared in every countenance, affording the surest
testimony of unaffected regard to the character of the
illustrious Washington, whose years may heaven multiply with
encreasing honours, until it shall please the Great Rewarder
of virtue, to translate him into happier scenes of endless
glory.
