Extract of a letter from Paris, May 28.
The orders issued from Madrid for recruiting the army from
every district was quietly obeyed except in the capital of
Barcelona; at which place there were great disturbances. In
the evening of the 4th of May, above 2000 workmen assembled,
armed with whatever fell in their way, with which they
proceeded to the cathedral and interrupted, with their alarm
bell, the service. The Bishop and Canons in vain exhorted
them to return peaceably home.
