From the St. James's Chronicle. The nation is almost
reduced to the state of topsy-turvyism, to which it has been
tending with great precipitation for some years. High life
below stairs, and low life above stairs, have for some time
amused us in representation, it is now carried form the
stage into real life; the master intrigues with the maid,
and my lady's elopements with the footman have placed many a
Lord's son in the kitchen, and put the footman's offspring
into possession of my Lord's title and estate; but now we
find the noble Lord himself fly his country for debt, and
chairmen, tavern-waiters, stock-brokers, and itinerant Jews
in possession of the family fortune.
