The following was wrote on the Dance between the black and
white Negroes in Charlestown, a short account of which was
given in our last.
An Ode to the New Year, 1782, which ought to be performed at
the Commandant's.
Oh how merry how merry, 
The blacks and whites have been, 
Sure such a fine dance as this
Before was never seen:
Oh 'twas pretty 'twas pretty, 
And nothing there amiss, 
And who could not covet to live
In such a fine year as this.
. . . [14 verses with burden, "Oh 'twas pretty, 'twas
pretty, &c."]
This song goes to the tune of Hey my Kitten.
