The "definitive treaty" exciting so much attention at present, the following quotation from a witty writer is not inapplicable:--- "If we consider most of the treaties for these 100 years, what are they but political comedies, with here and there a tragic scene interspersed, and sometimes a tragic catastrophe? Truces may be compared to farces, which divert people after a doleful tragedy." |
