forces and Commandant of New-York, &c. &c. &c.
Regulations established for the security of the ships and
vessels lying at the different wharves on the East and North
Rivers.
I. The wardens of the port are to appoint a patrole in each
of the undermentioned district, . . .
II. The master so charged with the patrole, is to visit the
several vessels in his district . . . for his being
satisfied that no danger is to be apprehended from fire
therein; . . .
IV. No bells are to be rung in any of the vessels lying in
the East River, either by day or night, except when danger
is discovered by fire, . . .
