Thoughts on Wishing. . . [57 lines]
The late ingenious and pious author of the Night Thoughts--
many of which, by the bye, are very good Day-Thoughts too--
has in the following nervous and humourous lines, exhibited
wishing in a proper point of view.
____Why wish for more?
Philosophy's reverse, and health's decay:
Were I as plump as stall'd theology,
Wishing would waste me to this shade again:
Were I as wealthy as a South-sea dream,
Wishing is an expedient to be poor.
Wishing, the constant hectic of a fool.
