New-York, March 2, 1774. Will be exhibited at Hamden-Hall,
near the Upper-Barracks, a variety of performances on the
Slack-Wire. Also a great variety on the Slack-Rope, by the
celebrated Mr. Johnston, and Mr. Brennon. Just arrived from
England, well known there for their abilities on the same,
they propose to perform on Wednesday next, being the 9th of
March. They balance, turn, and swing on the Wire, to
admiration. Balance a French Horn on the Wire, and play a
tune on it at the same time. Also a small sword on the edge
of a wine glass, with a pewter plate on the hilt of it, and
make it spin round like a top. Beat the side drum in full
swing on the Wire. Balance a straw on the nose on the Wire,
and beat a drum at the same time. . . .[lists 13 feats]
The doors to be opened at five, and the performance to
begin precisely at six o'clock. Tickets to be had of Mr.
Gaine, Mr. Ryan, in Great-George Street, Mr. Cairns, near
Peck's-Slip, and at the place of performance.
