A New Academy for Teaching Musick, Dancing, and the Italian
and French Languages.
Three Gentlemen, lately arrived from London, purpose to
open an Academy for teaching Music, Dancing, the French and
Italian Languages.
Nicholas Biferi, Master of Music, from Naples, will teach
vocal music, the harpsichord, to play pieces of music, and
an easy method to learn the composition, which he printed
for the public at Paris; he composes all sorts of music,
vocal and instrumental.
Pietro Sodi, Dancing-Master, will teach the minuet, the
louvre, the Dauphin minuet, the German dance, called
L'Allemande, the Cotilion of his composition, and other
figured dances, in a short time he has been dancing-master
in all the Courts in Europe, and last at London.
Joseph Cozani, will teach the French and Italian
languages.
The Gentlemen will begin the Academy when there are twelve
scholars by subscription, at twenty-four guineas a year, and
three guineas entrance. They hope the more for
encouragement from the public, as besides the moderate price
for four different talents, it is all the education that can
be given to youth of polite arts.
The first day that the Academy will be open, Mr. Biferi
will teach vocal music and the harpsichord; the second day
Mr. Sodi will teach dancing; the third day Mr. Cozani will
teach French; the fourth day vocal music, and the
composition, or the harpsichord; the fifth day dancing;
the sixth day the Italian language.
When the subscription of twelve scholars are accomplished,
the public will be acquainted of the place and time that the
academy will be opened. Those who choose private lessons,
are desired to acquaint the Masters, Messrs. Biferi and
Sodi, at Mr. James Wilmot's, at Peck's-Slip, Mr. Corani, at
Mr. Wilkes's, merchant, near the Exchange.
