PROLOGUS SWIFTIANUS.
Being a Prologue, for want of a Prologue, and may be spoken
by anybody in the character of somebody.
Introduction, Preparation, &c. &c. &c.
A dispute is heard behind the curtain concerning a Prologue
to the Piece, which continues about half a minute, when they
all exclaim, "No Prologue, no Play."
Upon which the Speaker enters.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I've ventur'd in to make my case As
plain, if possible, as the nose on your face;
And if you don't think the manner is somewhat ex-
traordinary;
Why, then, I'll grant you it may be nothing more than
ordinary;
You must known then, there has been a rumpus be-hind the
curtain,
And, egad, about nothing at all, at all--that's certain.
