The following humourous AEnigma and Solution (tho' not a
recent production) may perhaps afford some amusement to the
Disciples of the very facetious Democritus, of both Sexes.
AENIGMA.
[1]
Guess, Gentle Lady, if you can,
A thing that's wond'rous common,
What almost ev'ry well-bred man
presents to ev'ry woman.
[2]
A thing, with which you've often play'd
Between your thumb and finger;
Yet if too frequent use be made,
'Twill spoil you for a singer.
