From the Freeman's Journal, printed by Francis Bailey, at
Philadelphia, February 13, 1782.
EPIGRAM occasioned by the title of Rivington's Royal Gazette
being scarcely legible.
Says Satan to Jemmy, I hold you a bet
That you mean to abandon our Royal Gazette,
Or, between you and me, you would manage things better
Than the title to print on so damned a letter:

THE RETORT-COURTEOUS
Says the poet to Bailey, pray what is the reason,
Since you so delight in printing our treason.
That your paper is oft times so soft and so blue
We cannot tell tool from fool, or I from U?
. . . [8 more lines, signed] N.
