From the London Evening Post, January 10. Their Majesties
and the Prince of Wales went last night to Covent Garden
Theatre, to see the Chances, and the choice of Harlequin.
They were attended by the Duke of Queensberry, the Earls of
Hersford and Ashburnham. The Lady in waiting on her Majesty
was the Dutchess of Argyle. Never were there greater
numbers assembled at a Theatre than last night at Covent
Garden; it was conjectured that above a thousand people
were obliged to return for want of room; the theatre being
completely full at half past five o'clock.
Last night after Mrs. Kennedy sung the very pleasing song
in the new Pantomime at Covent Garden, the second stanza of
which begins:
Our William preserv'd our religion and laws,
And here now rises to plead our great cause.
The audience burst into an uproar of applause and obliged
her to repeat it. The Royal pair were evidently affected at
this elegant tribute paid to the rising merits of our
illustrious young hero.
