Edinburgh, March 11. A great number of letters have been
received here, from different parts of Scotland, relative to
the rejoicings made in each shire, on account of the success
of Mr. Douglas in his cause. At Douglas, in particular,
after a grand entertainment, on the 9th instant, a number of
gentlemen, accompanied by all the different trades and
attended by the military with their captains, &c. walked in
procession from Douglas castle to the Cross, with drums
beating, colours, flying, and musick of different kinds,
where they drew up, and several toasts were drank under
repeated discharges of the firearms. So numerous was the
company that upwards of 100 gallons of rum punch, besides a
great quantity of wine and ale were drank at the Cross. In
the evening there was a ball, illuminations, bonfires, &c.
