London, April 15. [Concerning the election of John Wilkes
to Parliament:]. . . after the poll was over a number of
horsemen with colours flying and musick playing went through
St. James's Street, the Strand, and over London bridge to
the King's bench, to congratulate Mr. Wilkes on his success.
At night the bells of several parishes were rung and the
populace obliged the inhabitants of the city and many
streets in Westminster to illuminate their windows.
