The inhabitants of Stratford upon Avon have lately presented
the freedom of their corporation to David Garrick, esq., in
a box, the wood of which was planted by the immortal
Shakespeare's own hand, and the representation of the storm
scene from King Lear carved thereon, value fifty guineas.
It was accompanied with a curious penknife which belonged to
that great genius. The corporation have since made Mr.
Garrick a burgess of the town and at the same time requested
to have his picture to put up in the town hall. Mr. Garrick
has sent one for that purpose.
