Extract from the Journal of the Prussian Army in Silesia.
The 18th of January, N.S. the King ordered Col. Brock to
go the Neiss with a trumpeter, and signify his intentions to
the Commandant of that place. The Colonel having approach'd
the place and the trumpeter given the call, they were fired
upon; this did not hinder the trumpeter from drawing a
little nearer and sounding his trumpet again; but seeing
several horsemen issuing out of the town with an intent to
surround him, he retired, and the Colonel came back to give
an account of what passed to the King. . . [6 lines]
The 20th the King sent a drummer to town to demand the
reason of their proceedings in regard to the trumpeter. The
Commandant made answer that he knew nothing of the matter. .
. [garrison finally surrendered]
