Extract of a letter, dated March 15, 1741-2.
The famous C---ll has been upon promoting the work among
us for above six weeks. His first onset was on Plymouth,
which is become an entire Bedlam. There preaching, praying,
singing, in one place or other, was his constant
unintermitting employ. He charmed the whole town from their
secular affairs, and letters say, that not one stroke of
work was done for three weeks by man, woman or child. . .
[15 lines] There were about the town singing processions of
hundreds, the voices with no uniformity or set rules, but
every one delivering the Yell he was particularly inspired
with, join'd with all the mad gestures and actions that
franticks show, the Rev. Mr. C---ll leading the van . . .
