London, Nov. 13. Tuesday about three o'clock in the
afternoon, 1300 foot-guards, and 250 horse, 65 from each
troop of horse and grenadier-guards were formed upon the
parade in St. James's park, from whence they marched to do
duty at the funeral of his late majesty, at the respective
places appointed for them.
At six o'clock St. Paul's great bell began tolling once
every minute, which was followed in the same manner by all
the bells in every parish in London, which continued till
eleven o'clock at night.
. . . [Description of other observances of the funeral and
procession]
The drums were all muffled up with crepe, and the drummers
ranged along the scaffolding, beating a dead march during
the procession, the household trumpeters and fifes walked in
mourning with black jockey caps.
