Extract of a private letter from the Hague . . . June 8 . .

Yesterday afternoon Mrs. Macaulay, the celebrated
historian (with a select party of her friends) was
entertained on board the ship Dutchess of Gorden, Capt.
Winn; on which occasion the ship was decorated with a
prodigious number of flags and streamers. . . . As soon as
the company embarked, the music in the barge played Handel's
water-piece, 'till they came under the ship's stern, when it
ceased, and the band in the ship begun with The Hero Comes,
'till Mrs. Macaulay was on board, and then changed to Rule
Britannia. . . .
