[Principal transactions of the Committee for the county of
New-Hanover and the town of Wilmington, North-Carolina] . .
. Resolved. . . that balls and assemblies at public houses
be discontinued, and that the owners of such houses have
notice thereof. . .
On the 1st of March the Committee met, and hearing that a
public ball was intended at the house of Mrs. Austin that
evening, she was desired to decline it, and the ball was
thereby prevented.

Resolved, that all private, as well as public dances, are
contrary to the spirit of the 8th article in the Association
of the Continental Congress, and that they should be
discouraged.
