New-York, July 30. From Elizabeth-Town we have certain
intelligence, that some of the officers of the 28th
regiment, quartered lately at that place, had been sued for
debt, had conceived a pique against the under-sheriff of
that borough, and being to embark at Amboy on Tuesday, some
of them having first raised their spirits with strong drink
the evening before, serenaded the town with their drum and
fife, 'till near midnight. About one o'clock in the
morning, they began an attack on the court-house, where the
under-sheriff lived, broke the windows, and endeavoured to
force the door, the under-sheriff thereupon rang the bell
and alarmed the inhabitants; . . .
