...[Story of young girl who was seduced and then married
Lord Darnley]
One evening Darnley, with a numerous company, carried me to
the play-house. I forget the title of the piece. In one
scene there appeared a grey-haired old man, with a mattock
in his hand, the picture of venerable poverty, who said to a
young woman loaded with diamonds, "Ah! my daughter, I see
thy wealth-- where is thy virtue?"
I screamed out, "Oh! my father!" and fainted away.
