[Untitled verse]
In our dependent golden days,
When loyalty no harm meant;
A zealous courtier then I was,
By which I got preferment.
. . . [4 lines follow]
[Burden]
And this is the law I will maintain,
(I hold it no disgrace Sirs)
That whatsoever power shall reign,
I'll keep myself in place Sirs.
. . . [5 verses with burden, "And this is law, &c." follow.]
[signed] A Traveller.
[Submitted as a paraphrase on the Vicar of Brae.]
