17 May 1783:32, 33 (1/74)
Thursday last many respectable inhabitants of Philadelphia,
elated with the glorious prospects of peace and public
happiness, and desirous of reviving the former good old
custom of the country, in commemorating Tammany's Day,
assembled on the banks of the Schuylkill, dressed and
distinguished in buck-tails and feathers, very expressive of
the occasion, where a suitable entertainment was prepared;
having spent the day in the greatest pleasure imaginable,
they returned to town, marched to the coffee-house in
regular file and order, with music, &c. and after displaying
the most perfect joy in three huzzas, they retired and
dispersed. [4 lines, comments on participants.]
