Richmond, May 17. Extract of a letter from Fredericksburg.
[31 lines, celebration of peace.] The afternoon as spent in
a dance on the green, with intervals of loud acclamation of
joy. At night they all retired to their homes in a
peaceable orderly manner, with drums beating, and fifes
playing, to the tune of Yankey Doodle, or the Lexington
march, which was, you know, the first tune set to martial
musick when the commencement of the war took place.
