By the Honourable Robert Dinwiddie, Esq; . . . Whereas Guy,
a Negroe man slave, belonging to George Purcell, about two
years ago being covicted of felony, in the county of
Northumberland, broke the goal of the said county, and is
fled from justice: The said Guy is of a yellow complexion,
much like a Mulatto, about 5 feet 6 inches high, and is
thought to be in the county of Frederick, and to pass for a
Free-man by the name of Nicken, he plays on the violin.
And whereas Dick, a Negroe man slave, belonging to William
Hutchings, in the county of Lancaster, about five months ago
ran away from his said master, and refuses to surrender
himself although the process of outlawry hath issued against
him, according as the law directs: and there is good reason
to suspect, that the said Dick intends to escape out of this
colony; he is about 5 feet 10 inches high, a strong active
fellow, and can play on the fiddle.
There are therefore in his Majesty's name, to command and
require all sheriffs, constables, and other his Majesty's
liege people, within this colony, to make diligent search
and pursuit, by way of hue and cry . . . [9 lines, terms, 10
