[Long narrative of shipwreck:]. . . The shore was soon
thronged with the remainder of the inhabitants of the little
village to which the fishermen belonged; amongst them came
an elderly Negro, whom, by a few trinkets that hung to his
ears and round his neck, I supposed to be the head man of
the place . . . [25 lines, description of marriage ceremony]
The ceremony being over, the company joined in a circular
dance, with the married pairs in the middle. . . [narrative
continues as villagers are captured and carried off onto a
slave ship that narrator signs onto in order to get away.
En route to Barbados, the Captain ] ordered the mate to go
down and bring up 20, saying "he would make the devils dance
for their health;" . . .
