Portsmouth, Jan. 12, 1768. Mess. Purdie & Dixon, I have
lived here many years in good credit, and laid out some
thousands of pounds in trade, until October 1765 I was
unfortunately married to Benjamin Bannerman, who has behaved
himself in such a manner as will surprise all honest men. .
. [17 lines] He then rented his house to an actor and his
wife for 40 L. a year, with all my furniture, and detained a
chest of my best wearing apparel. I was then obliged to go
to three different gentlemen, in order to beg a supply of
clothing and other necessaries. . . [10 lines, signed]
Margaret Bannerman.
