From the London Weekly Journal, March 2, 1771. War! War! No
peace, no convention, no ratification! My blood boils, and
it must have vent. . . . [5 paragraphs, the rantings of "Mad
Tom of Bedlam."]
Arm'd for the fight, each warriour take his post,
And hews his way through bak'd, and boil'd, and roast;
Attacks fish, flesh, and fowl, both great and small,
Joints, haunches, turkies turbots, bones and all!
. . . [2 lines and 1 paragraph follow, including the
following:] Madam Cornelys against the law, Justice against
the Harmonick Meeting, Harmonick Meetings against Operas,
Operas against common sense, . . . sound the trumpet of
battle, throw down the gauntlet of defiance, and to it pell
mell! So says the magnanimous William Earl of Chatham. . .
