Extract of a letter from Newcastle upon Tyne, May 9. As
soon as news came here of the Lord Mayor and Mr. Alderman
Oliver's enlargement the bells were set a-ringing, all the
ships in the river hoisted their colours, and Sir. B.
Delaval gave a grand supper to the Corporation of Newcastle.
After supper an elegant ball was given, the town was finely
illuminated . . . several casks of ale were given to the
populace.
