Extract of a letter from Exeter, August 24. On Thursday
last arrived here Lord Chatham and family. He was invited
to the Guildhall by compliments sent by the Mayor and
Aldermen, and there received the freedom of the city from
the hands of Mr. Serjeant Glynn, Recorder. The bells of the
cathedral, and all the parish churches rang incessantly
while he staid; he honoured the Mayor with his company at
dinner, and left the town the same evening. Lady Chatham
received respectful compliments from the Exeter ladies, who
visited her at the inn, and would fain have prevailed on her
staying to receive their intended civilities, which were to
be a concert and ball.
