From the Pennsylvania Gazette. To Messieurs Hall and
Sellers.
The candid reception the publick was pleased to give the
sermon upon the use and abuse of wine, published in one of
your gazettes, hath encouraged me to send you another, by
the same hand, upon intemperance in eating. It was found in
the same bundle with the last, and was preached soon after
it. Your giving it a place in your paper will much oblige,
gentlemen, Your, s &c. [signed[ G.S.
. . . [5 columns including thoughts on death and happiness,
as well as eating, and interspersed are lines of poetry
quoted from Milton, Shakespear, Homer, and Simonides.]
