London.  The Sieur Pain, a celebrated mathematician at
Paris, has just presented to the King of France, and to the
Royal Family, a surprising piece of machinery.  It
represents the figure of the God of Love as large as the
life, which arises from a bank it is discovered on, pays its
respects to the spectators, then write several lines with
one of its arrows, and afterwards plays two opera airs upon
the harpsichord.  The execution of this Automaton has given
uncommon satisfaction to all who have beheld it; . . . [5
