The Governour has issued his proclamation, and offered a
reward of fifty pounds, for apprehending one Nicholas
Curlett, lately a tavern keeper in Winchester, who on the
27th of May last barbarously murdered Mr. Jeremiah Beall, a
merchant of that place, by firing through his door at him
with a rifle. It seems Mr. Beall, and some others, had been
merry-making that day, and in the evening, hearing a fiddle
at Curlett's tavern, they proposed joining the company
there, but upon their opening were refused admittance by
Curlett, who shut the door upon them. . . [7 lines]
